I have been training people to meet their neighbors for two years now after I went out on a limb and one day decided to bring garden produce to all of the people living on my street. Years later, we often gather together for outdoor movie nights and we helped each other immensely during the 2021 freeze.
I gave zoom workshops all throughout 2020 and much of 2021 on starting your neighborhood pod, hyperlocal coordinations of your neighbors from 5-30 households around you that check in on each other, socialize, share tools, knowledge, seeds, etc, and eventually come together to work on common projects and take shared decisions and actions on the issues that affect you all.
I've recently decided to drop the workshops in favor of meeting with people and any neighbors they might already know in their own blocks, buildings, or in somewhere nearby so that these workshops and consultations can be more personalized to your specific situation! I'm about 20,000 words into a book about my experiences over the last several years and I hope you'll let me share these experiences and resources with you so that we can build a more interconnected, resilient city. I can help you on any step of that journey, from going with you door-to-door to meet your neighbors, helping you organize a social event, or introducing the concepts of decentralized direct democracy and shared placemaking projects to your already social and connected neighbors!
